I have paint mixtures with sample flat paints containing gesso, plaster a paris, whiting, calcium carbonate and mixtures of calcium carbonate & plaster a paris together. I got on my kick (as I know many others have) since reading Sherry's post at No Minimalist (she's just brilliant, and funny too). I have to say that since playing with all the combinations I don't experience any long drying time so it probably was the humidity. I live in Florida but I always paint in the house, or try to. Anyhoo, wanted to put my 2 cents in oh yea, and tell ya I'm a new follower.
