I have paint mixtures with sample flat paints containing gesso, plaster a paris, whiting, calcium carbonate and mixtures of calcium carbonate & plaster a paris together. I got on my kick (as I know many others have) since reading Sherry's post at No Minimalist (she's just brilliant, and funny too). I have to say that since playing with all the combinations I don't experience any long drying time so it probably was the humidity. I live in Florida but I always paint in the house, or try to. Anyhoo, wanted to put my 2 cents in oh yea, and tell ya I'm a new follower. Love your work, keep it up.
Stop by and say howdy if ya get the chance www.deannario.com Bye : )Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16932625465112852229noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2815095251163006481.post-1517901606860558972011-10-08T07:55:32.796-07:002011-10-08T07:55:32.796-07:00ooooh it's a cutie! come visit anytime!

I hope mine turns out as well as yours.

Is it just me or are all the bloggers that have posted their comments with this DIY paint method getting lots of Anonymous posts-- from ASCP advocates?

Well either way... it's just paint right?
The Marble industry doesn't get mad when someone creates a faux marble countertop... do they?

Oh, I was going to ask you about the wax. Is it necessary? Does it serve to finish the project or is it just for looks? I've not every used wax on a painted project.

...PatPatricia @ 9th and Denverhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04786692442689958889noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2815095251163006481.post-59261111272131607712011-09-25T09:58:22.411-07:002011-09-25T09:58:22.411-07:00Kristy, Your little table turned out wonderful! I really don't know what happened with the drying time unless it was the humidity or the paint was a little thick. I painted an urn last night using the calcium carbonate and it was dry and I had it decorated for Fall within two hours. I did paint it in my kitchen though. Thanks again for the mention and I am glad this turned out well for you.
Hugs,
SherrySherry @ No Minimalist Herehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14321374710550709020noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2815095251163006481.post-45463154620583569972011-09-25T08:10:25.396-07:002011-09-25T08:10:25.396-07:00This project turned out beautifully! You said it was slower drying (but may be due to humidity) and it wasn't so easy to sand off for distressed look. That's some of the points they promote with the "other" paint.

I'm wondering if it's the plaster of paris, rather than the other stuff, what was it, calcium carbonate or whatever. I'm curious if that would dry faster and sand easier?

If you try the other ingredient, hope you post how it goes, many are curious.

JeanneAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
